Tick Tock….Waiting for God

Posted on November 16, 2011

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, Colossians 1:9

We can know the will of God. We have his Word. We can pray to know His will. We can pray for others to know His will. He has given us His own Spirit to live in us so we would have His wisdom to understand His will.  Isn’t that encouraging?

But this poor Joseph guy. He heard from God – received wisdom and understanding to know His will for his own life. He saw it in a dream – he was excited and shared it – and look what happened. Betrayal and imprisonment. What????? God told him he would rule over even his own brothers and then came years of really rough stuff.

Can you relate? I can. God worked in me a desire to submit to my husband’s dream of moving to Branson. It was not what I wanted at all. But God revealed to me that I could trust Him in it. The rest of the story is not what we expected. Economy happened and he still lives and works in Louisiana where I wanted to stay. I live in Branson in his dream house and we see each other every other week if we are lucky. This has been going on for several years. We wait………. and we wait……… and wonder if we heard God right. We know… but there is still such a mystery.

Two of my dearest friends who truly live for Jesus are walking through the unthinkable with no end in sight. It does not look like God’s will. It was not what they expected. How could God be in it? How could God use it?

Are you in the same waiting situation? Do you love someone dearly who is waiting?

How unsearchable are his judgements, and His paths beyond tracing out. Romans 11:33

On page 85 & 86 of Live a Praying Life by Jennifer Kennedy Dean, I watched Joseph explain to his brothers that GOD sent him to Egypt to save their lives(Gen 45:7-8). God used seemingly adverse circumstances to position Joseph for receiving the promise.

But their was certainly a wait involved. And God used that wait. Heaven was at work during the wait. He is in charge! We don’t get to tell Him how to accomplish His will. (Oh – but we’d like to.)

Are you inspired, encouraged, relieved to see how God worked behind the scenes to bring His really good plan along with His grace, mercy, and provision through the rough days of Joseph?

It boils down to this……… do you trust that He is for you and His plan is bigger than you can imagine (Ephesians 3;20)? I will trust Him while we (me and David) are apart. I will keep holding on and EXPECT God to be loving us behind the scenes and using us in His mysterious ways.

I will wait. I will pray. I will be sustained by Him.  What about you?

Father, in your son Jesus’ name, I come before you on behalf of all reading this. I thank you for encouraging us with your Truth. Thank you for showing us how you work out your will with long-term plans that are so mysterious. You are a God of wonder! Your ways are too awesome for us to comprehend. Help us to trust you in the waiting. Help us to know MORE of YOU while we wait. Help us to shine our lights for you while we wait. Use us today and tomorrow. We need you to sustain us in the waiting. We need you. Thank you for helping us to know and trust you are our need-meeting Father. We surrender to the waiting. Amen
